Maximise Your Savings with NEM 3.0!

~140 MW Quota Left for Residential Users, ~590 MW for Commercial & Industrial Users

Solar ATAP is generally designed for eligible TNB electricity consumers who wish to install rooftop solar PV systems at their premises. According to the Solar ATAP guideline, eligibility includes being a TNB registered consumer, with tariff category and technical requirements to be checked before application.

The programme may apply to:

  • Domestic residential consumers

  • Commercial consumers

  • Industrial consumers

  • Government and institutional buildings

  • Property owners with suitable rooftops

For homeowners, Solar ATAP can help reduce monthly electricity bills by using self-generated solar energy during the day. For businesses and factories, Solar ATAP can reduce operating costs, improve sustainability performance, and provide a hedge against rising electricity tariffs.

Benefits of Solar ATAP Scheme

Key benefits include:

  • Lower monthly electricity bills

  • Generate your own clean solar energy

  • Reduce reliance on grid electricity

  • Export excess solar energy to the grid

  • Receive Solar ATAP credit to offset electricity bills

  • Improve long-term energy cost savings

  • Support Malaysia’s renewable energy transition

  • Increase property value through rooftop solar adoption

  • Reduce carbon emissions from electricity consumption

For homeowners, the SuRIA Home rebate of up to RM3,000 can further improve the return on investment for residential solar installation in West Malaysia.

SuRIA Home Solar Rebate: Up to RM3,000 for Domestic Users

For homeowners in Peninsular Malaysia / West Malaysia, the Government has introduced the SuRIA Home programme to encourage residential rooftop solar adoption under the Solar ATAP Scheme.

Under SuRIA Home, eligible domestic users who install solar systems under Solar ATAP may receive a rebate of RM600 per kWac, up to a maximum of RM3,000, equivalent to a 5kWac solar installation. The rebate implementation begins on 1 June 2026 and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to the programme quota and eligibility requirements.

This makes 2026 an important year for homeowners who are considering solar installation, as the SuRIA Home incentive can help reduce the upfront cost of adopting rooftop solar.

SuRIA Home key highlights:

  • Up to RM3,000 solar rebate for eligible domestic users

  • RM600 rebate per kWac of solar installation

  • Maximum rebate equivalent to 5kWac

  • Applicable for eligible Solar ATAP residential installations

  • Begins from 1 June 2026

  • First-come, first-served basis

  • Subject to eligibility and quota availability

Solar ATAP Scheme Malaysia

Solar ATAP Scheme Malaysia

The Solar Accelerated Transition Action Programme, also known as the Solar ATAP Scheme, is Malaysia’s latest rooftop solar programme introduced by the Government starting 1 January 2026. It replaces the previous Net Energy Metering 3.0 programme, which ended on 30 June 2025, and provides a new pathway for Malaysians to install rooftop solar and reduce electricity bills through self-consumption and solar energy export credits.

Under the Solar ATAP Scheme, homeowners, commercial buildings, and industrial users can install a solar PV system on their rooftop to generate clean electricity for their own use. Any excess solar energy generated may be exported to the TNB grid, where eligible consumers can receive Solar ATAP credits to offset their electricity bills.

At Progressture Solar, we help customers in Malaysia adopt rooftop solar through professional consultation, system design, authority application support, solar panel installation, testing, commissioning, and long-term maintenance.

What is Solar ATAP in Malaysia?

What is Solar ATAP in Malaysia?

Solar ATAP is a government-supported rooftop solar programme designed to accelerate solar adoption among Malaysian electricity consumers. The programme encourages consumers to use their own rooftop space to generate renewable energy, reduce reliance on grid electricity, and lower monthly electricity costs.

The scheme is suitable for:

  • Residential homeowners

  • Commercial buildings

  • Factories and industrial facilities

  • Warehouses and logistics centres

  • Retail buildings and offices

  • Property owners with available rooftop space

Unlike the previous NEM programme, Solar ATAP is designed as a new rooftop solar mechanism for Malaysia’s energy transition, with applications handled through the official Solar ATAP process and platform.

How Does Solar ATAP Work?

Under the Solar ATAP Scheme, your rooftop solar PV system will generate electricity during the day. The electricity generated will first be used by your home, building, or factory for self-consumption.

When your solar system produces more electricity than your property uses at that time, the excess energy may be exported to the TNB grid. Eligible exported energy will be converted into Solar ATAP credit, which can be used to offset your electricity bill according to the applicable Solar ATAP mechanism.

In simple terms:

  1. Solar panels generate electricity from your rooftop

  2. Your property uses the solar electricity first

  3. Excess solar energy is exported to the TNB grid

  4. Solar ATAP credit is used to reduce your electricity bill

  5. You enjoy long-term electricity cost savings from clean energy

The Solar ATAP contract period is 10 years from the commencement of the Solar ATAP contract. After the 10-year period, the solar PV system will continue to operate for self-consumption at the premises, but the export offset and rollover mechanism will no longer apply.
